Archivist (6 month Maternity Cover)
£23,000 - £30,000
London (National Maritime Museum)
It’s an exciting time to be part of Royal Museums Greenwich’s pioneering Archive and Library team. Looking after more than two million archives, charts, maps, manuscripts and a library collection of 100,000 rare books and research volumes, we have recently reopened in a new purpose-built space featuring some innovative new developments. Our goal is to broaden access to our collections as we engage new audiences, both onsite and via the web.
Right now we need a forward-thinking Archivist to play a key role in cataloguing, managing and developing our archive collections. In addition, you will help to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the service, including public access provision. Managing two colleagues, you’ll also help to enhance our online catalogue and provide a public-facing service, as well as contributing to learning events and group visits.
With a professional qualification in archives administration or equivalent, you should bring proven experience gained in a public research and learning archive and library (or similar environment). A good working knowledge of archive databases is also important, along with strong communication skills, an understanding of international standards and guidelines (ISAD(G) for example) and a customer-focused approach.
