Bedford BC Not Protectively Marked.
First of all thanks to everyone last year who made suggestions about how
I could view a collection of 500 digitised maps on a public computer
without spending too much money. Lots of people recommended Zoomify and
having no money to spend I went with the free version, which is great,
just got finished putting all the maps through the converter and the
searchroom can use them.
However, the way the searchroom uses them is far from pretty (picking
the htm file with the right reference from the list of htm files and
folders) and the public don't stand a chance on their own. So now my
next task is to build some sort of front end that takes the user to the
correct htm file for the map they need without them needing to consult
two different paper catalogues first. Has anyone any experience of
building a front end like this - I envisage a map of the county split
into the OS grid with buttons for the different map references relevant
to each grid position that when clicked on take you to the Zoomify files
but this may require web authoring facilities that are beyond what I
have access to or am allowed to use - I am open to any suggestions of
how to make my lovely files more user friendly.
