Quite agree. I think this survey just underlines what a huge challenge DoH have on their hands with the project. For the information strategy to have any sort of success clinicians, or at least a substantial number of them, have to believe in it. That requires a culture change that, sadly, isn't going to happen overnight.

Ok so the article doesn't really reveal anything new to my mind. People, whether health professionals or patients, have also had concerns around the security of electronic records. I bet it doesn't stop them signing up for amazon, online bank accounts etc etc.
It doesn't mean an accessible record isn't a good idea. Fundamentally isn't it appealing, particularly to lab medicine, to have something which records current medications, recent lab tests, investigations and a brief history?
Yes, I'd be mortified as a patient if a range of health professionals could find out whether I'd needed counselling for some traumatic, but non-organic, event in my life.
Equally I'd be thrilled if I could turn up at any walk-in centre or A&E with my sick child and the NHS had access to their newborn screening record, list of allergies and blood type. I'm sure there could be more.
Please can we focus on sending the message that the records can be valued if they contain some meaningful information - I'd rather Trusts were investing time, effort and yes money, in systems which allowed consistent and accurate results, preferably with sensible interpretation, to get to health professionals within their own departments, then primary care. Perhaps then there'll be something worth looking at in the records to create a demand. To my mind there's no point having an all-singing, all-dancing EPR which is virtually empty because the ancient LIMS results have to go through 2 middleware programmes which strip off any addition comments. You may as well wait for the paper.
Thank goodness it's Friday!
