The Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies<http://sydney.edu.au/business/itls> (ITLS) within the Business School undertakes graduate teaching, management development programs, grant and contract research and development across all modes of transport.

The ITLS is Australia's Key Centre of Excellence in Transport and Logistics research and education and will celebrate its 18th year in 2013. Through the establishment of the Key Centre and a memorandum of understanding signed between the University of Sydney and the University of Johannesburg, ITLS is an international collaboration at three nodes: ITLS Sydney, ITS Monash and ITLS Africa.

As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Choice Modelling and Applications you will:

  *   develop travel and location choice survey methods, data specifications and model approaches

*         work with all choice model outputs to build into a platform such as OmniTRANS for implementation of models in project appraisal studies

  *   maintain the currency of online documentation of all data sources and assumptions of model specifications

*         undertake applications within the OmniTRANS platform framework to test the effectiveness of embedded parameterised and calibrated discrete choice models

  *   run model system package with new models embedded and report results (including case studies) for all audiences
  *   provide research support to the project team i.e. contribute to report and paper writing
  *   work with the research team leader to assist with other support tasks as required.
To be successful in this role you will need:

*         a PhD  in econometrics, statistics, transport planning, computer science, computer engineering, quantitative geography or related disciplines

  *   a demonstrated ability to work successfully in qualitative modelling projects, specifically, highly developed research skills in discrete choice modelling, including model development, estimation and application
  *   a good understanding of procedures to source and prepare data for choice modelling and application

*         organisational, time management, communication and teamwork skills

*         evidence of research potential in the form of published industry reports and academic publications

  *   previous experience using microeconomic ideas in model formulation
  *   a high-level proficiency in MS Windows, MS Office (especially Excel) and the willingness to be trained in the use of other computer applications such as Nlogit and NGene.
