I did that deliberately.
There is some doubt about the degree to which this prince is much
more than a thug -- my researches do not yet allow me to be sure which
of the many prince / thugs Elidius faced this is, hence "a prince" --
and I felt he might like to pick up some of the lingo. (As they do, as
one says.) It would have been feudal in structure anyway.
I think his whole proposed polity as he implies it is very suspect

yes, a certain pleasing 'purity of diction' - but that which
separates it somewhat from contemporary English, and pleases me,
falters momentarily at 'interactions', i.e. I feel the word comes from
another register.
