Dear all
I would just like to share a project with the network.
Since January 1st, I have been posting a drawing a day on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/karenwallisartworks. It began as a way of making myself draw everyday. Now in the second month, I have had time to reflect on the process and feel confident in telling more people about it.
It has proved an interesting discipline. First, and most obviously, by making it public there is pressure to continue the daily activity. But I have also created rules for myself, which are having their effect. All the drawings are done in one sketchbook. Any subject can be drawn as long as it is observed during that day. I am only allowed to do one drawing in the journal each day and whatever I draw must be published, whether I think it is good or not. These rules are making me think carefully about which moment or object I select to draw - but on the other hand I feel adventurous in having the freedom of the right to fail (in Brechtian terms) because I know it will have to be published.
The Facebook comments and 'likes' are another story. I enjoy developing an online following. They are most tolerant of my random choice of subjects and variations in drawing style and ability. And the popularity of certain drawings is a delightful surprise.
My hope is to continue throughout the year.
Best wishes
Karen
