If a low profile switched joystick is acceptable - with activation force of 190gm, then the Moozi [from MERU] might be a solution

This could be used with an ACC4 or DX 5SW interface. I have a client using a Tash switched joystick with push and an ACC4 and have found that the programmability of the Master remote is good enough to provide an acceptably smooth driving experience. So use of a switched rather than a proportional joystick may be acceptable.

In any case the travel of the HMC mini is so small that the user requires good fine motor control, otherwise they are using as switched joystick.





The Omni compact [approx. 220gm] or Compact Light [50gm] are possibilities if you have a P&G R-Net system. But I am not aware that HMC provide a DX compatible system. Note that the compact light does not have a protective gaiter over the joystick column and relies on the cone [knob] to provide some protection of the inner workings against ingress of water/objects. Because of the lack of a gaiter and because the activation force is so low then it may not be possible to use any alternative knob.

A foam ball weighs around 50 gm. and is therefore not a safe substitute for the evazote[?] cone.



I hope that a compact, lighter weight [e.g. 100gm force] joystick will become available for the DX system soon.



An alternative solution which we have used when a tray mounted HMC mini-joystick is required is to mount it on its side. The user adapts very quickly to this orientation. Still push forward for forward and back for back [use a knuckle] and then up for right and down for left.

A carved foam arm support on the tray helps keep the hand in position if the client has weakness e.g. muscular dystrophy] and cannot place their hand in the correct position or retain it in position whilst driving over rough ground.



I haven't tried this with the Tash switched mini-joystick with push. The joystick travel may make sideways mounting impractical for the client - though the flexible shaft can be cut down to reduce travel.

Does anyone know of a low profile proportional joystick that can be used for driving compatible with a Dynamic control system?

I'm looking for a low profile as the user drives with a tray and it needs to be positioned midline with the tray in place. The standard joysticks are too high and there is limited space with a cut out in the tray.



Something like the Mini Joystick switch (http://www.inclusive.co.uk/mini-joystick-with-push-p5209) but as a proportional joystick would be suitable.
