Project title: Quantification of the Benefits of Active Travel (BeAT) in
Urban Environment
Summary: Active travel is a key factor in promoting healthy living in
cities. Identification and estimation of the benefits of active travel
(BeAT) are critical to justify such policy changes. The proposed project
aims at quantification of individual and social BeAT taking into account
health benefits, traffic exposure, pollution, discomfort levels and other
relevant factors. The proposed project will utilise intelligent sensing of
key factors, data-fusion of cycling and walking trips, and subsequent data
analysis.
Candidate Profile: Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer
Science/Engineering or Statistics/Mathematics/Physics or a related field; a
master's degree will be preferred.
A strong background in data analysis and computation is required. Research
experience in real-time database analysis and modelling along with previous
work in the area of mobile computation is desirable.
Active interest in cycling and sustainable travel is recommended.
The intended start date is spring 2013. PhD funding is only available for
EU students.
