WOCREF 2013 Bristol – Call for Abstracts
World Cycling Research Forum,
University of the West of England, Bristol, England
5 – 6 September 2013
The World Cycling Research Forum is an exciting opportunity for
researchers, practitioners, policy advisors and consultants interested
in all aspects of cycling. Abstracts are now invited for oral and poster
presentation at the 2013 edition, to be held in Bristol, UK.
Please note that WOCREF 2013 offers a particularly exciting opportunity
for cycling researchers in that it precedes the Cycling and Society
Symposium by only a few days. C&S will be held on 9th/10th in
Llangollen, North Wales. Our two conferences will complement each other
in that the WOCREF will showcase research with a more applied focus.
Held in the UK's first Cycling City, WOCREF will be a celebration of
research from public and private organisations as well as academia that
seeks to make immediate and lasting impacts on the social, structural,
and cultural spheres of cycling worldwide.
For the University of the West of England, WOCREF forms part of their
Year of Cycling; an initiative that brings together a range of academic
disciplines across the university involved in cycling related research
and seeks to generate innovative research as well as having a
significant impact on the cycling behaviours of students and staff at
UWE and of people in the wider community. For more information -

WOCREF invites abstracts of papers and presentations to be considered
for oral and poster presentation. Reports of cycling research at any
stage of completion are invited. Please indicate for which of the
following your abstract should be considered:
1. Oral presentation only at WOCREF;
2. Oral presentation at WOCREF and development into an article to be
reviewed with the aim of publication in the online journal Cycling
Research International; or
3. Poster presentation (particularly useful to promote discussion and
gain feedback on projects in gestation).
Research around cycling will be considered from any field. However,
preference will be given to those submissions that clearly address one
or more of the topic areas that are being emphasised at the conference:
• Travel mode shift
• Motivations and barriers
• Planning, policy and economics
• Design, engineering and infrastructure
• Environment and sustainability
• Safety
• Health and performance
• Tourism and leisure
Timing for oral presentations will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for
audience discussion. Poster presentations will be made during planned
sessions for poster viewing and during all networking/refreshment
breaks.
Please note the following considerations:
• all submissions will be blind peer reviewed;
• all abstracts of work selected for presentation at the conference
will be available on the web site and will appear in the printed
conference booklet (available for optional purchase);
• the abstract template can be downloaded from www.wocref.org;
• abstract length is 250 words and must fit on the abstract former;
• submit your abstract by email to [log in to unmask];
