Senior Lecturer/Lecturer Criminology

The School of Applied Social Sciences (SASS) at Durham University is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/ Lecturer in Criminology to support the delivery of its undergraduate and postgraduate provision in this area and to contribute to one or more of its research groups.
The successful candidate will have teaching expertise in criminological theory and one or more relevant criminology research areas. The School's criminology research group covers subjects such as crime, violence and abuse, sex work and sexual exploitation, cultural criminology, crime and technology, policing, and intellectual property crime.
The successful candidate will have a track record of internationally excellent publications and external funding, and a commitment to delivering excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post offers exceptional opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their research and teaching within a supportive environment.
The School of Applied Social Sciences (SASS) is a large interdisciplinary unit with research and teaching strengths that encompass Criminology, Sociology, Social Policy, Social Work, and Community and Youth Work. Undergraduate programmes are taught in Criminology, Sociology, and Sport, Exercise & Physical Activity. Postgraduate programmes are delivered in the areas of Criminology, Sociology, Social Policy, Social Work, and Community and Youth Work. The School has a large pool of UK, European, and international research students.
The School will submit to UoA 22, Social Work and Social Policy in the REF 2014. Building upon a strong research culture and mentoring system, SASS provides a vibrant and supportive environment to develop publication, grant application and career plans. Evidence of the university's commitment to SASS is in the 10 appointments made in 2012 across the career span.
The School is committed to producing a world-class standard of applied, interdisciplinary research which engages with contemporary issues and debates in the policy and wider public spheres. Knowledge exchange is a key and growing dimension of our work.

The Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity Division in the School of Applied Social Sciences (SASS) is seeking to appoint academic staff in an exciting development that will increase its research capacity over the next few years. In addition to widening its research portfolio, this phase of recruitment will allow us to enhance further and expand upon our distinctive and successful undergraduate programme in this area. Successful candidates will join a dynamic and forward looking staff team, committed to an ambitious research and teaching strategy in SASS.
The successful candidates will contribute to research and teaching across our sport, exercise and physical activity pathways, as well as other SASS undergraduate programmes (depending upon research and teaching interests). Depending on their skills and experiences, candidates may take on leadership of research groups or programme areas as necessary. The successful candidates will have a track record of publications in a sport, exercise, or physical activity area, and will have the potential to produce research of outstanding quality. They also will have experience of generating research funding and/or clear plans for attracting future research income.
