Dear all,
We are pleased to inform you that Professor Stephen H. West from Arizona
State University will be teaching a "Masterclass" at SOAS for PhD
students in the fields of
pre-modern Chinese literature and culture on 7 March 2013 (Thursday)
from 10:00-12:00. As you are aware, Prof. West's research interests span
a broad range of topics in pre-modern performance literature, poetry,
urban culture, and gardens.
In the masterclass, Prof. West will lead the class in reading
and discussing selected pre-modern literary texts such as drama
(material will be provided in advance). Research students will also have
a chance to discuss their work with Prof. West over lunch that follows
the class. The Masterclass is open to both SOAS and non-SOAS students.
If you have any research students who might be interested in
participating, please ask them to get in touch with me directly for
further details.
As you may have heard some time ago from a separate notice, Prof. West
will also deliver the SOAS CCS Annual Lecture on 6 March 2013
(Wednesday) from 17:30-19:00 on "The Burdens of Happiness: Zhu
Changwen's Garden of Joy". This is a public lecture and open to all.
Best wishes,
Tian Yuan
