Dear all,
We would like to draw your attention to the following course organised
by the MRC Social & Public Health Sciences Unit, Institute of Health &
Wellbeing, University of Glasgow.
Title: Introduction to systematic reviews of complex interventions
Date: 16-17 April 2013
Place: Grosvenor Hilton, Great Western Road, Glasgow, UK
The course aims to provide participants with an introduction to:
• the key principles of systematic review and evidence synthesis
• planning and conducting a systematic review of interventions
• managing a review which includes diverse sources of evidence
(different study designs, qualitative & quantitative data), and multiple
outcomes
The course will cover the principles of systematic review and evidence
synthesis. A mix of lectures and workshops will be used to teach the key
steps in conducting a systematic review, and the course will draw on
examples of reviews of social interventions conducted by those providing
the course. The course will focus on the challenges and ways of managing
issues arising in reviews of complex interventions. These include:
selecting appropriate search terms and sources; critical appraisal of
non-randomised studies; incorporation of qualitative data; and narrative
synthesis. This is a short course and will only be able to provide an
introduction to each aspect of a review. A short session on
meta-analysis will be provided but this will not be the focus of this course
