Dear Friends
The debate reminds me of similar one in philosophy where (i think it
was) professor antony flew who wrote in the first
intro to his Introduction to Western Philosophy that there was no
rational thought east of suez and there was therefore no need to
cover the topic - how wrong he was about that -
eg: the concept of zero originates in Buddhist philosophy - which is
every bit as technical as the more familiar kinds.
My late supervisor Professor Bimal Matilal made it his life's work to
overturn this misperception about the real history of philos.
I guess the editors could haved ask an expert on eastern thought etc to
prepare a review essay on the topic -

ps: - looking forward to future projects that are sure to change
perceptions in our field -
if one doesn't keep up this sort of pressure then things will never change
