# Session Details
Session 1: Wednesday, 6 February 2013 "The semi-automatic generation of assessment items: objectives, challenges, and perspectives"
Presenter: Muriel Foulonneau (Henri Tudor Research Centre, Luxembourg)
"To Really Learn, Quit Studying and Take a Test" claimed a New York Times article in 2011, based on a study that demonstrated the value of assessment, not only for diagnostic or summative objective but also for formative objectives. Individuals use more and more self-assessment tools, through Flash cards for instance, with the creation of communities for sharing those resources. From game-quiz-like choice items in mathematics to fill in blank items in language learning, the variety of items is very large and raises specific difficulties and challenges. Semi-automatic generation aims to increase security and variability of items based on a template or to create a set of items directly from a learning resource. It raises different types of methodological as well as technological issues. In this Webinar, we will present the situations in which semi-automatic item generation is valuable, the technologies used to carry out these tasks, including Semantic Web data sources and natural language processing approaches, finally the technological and methodological perspectives, to accompany the ever more diverse roles of assessment in current learning approaches. The Webinar is addressing practitioners as well as researchers interested in innovative approaches to e-assessment.

Session 2: Wednesday, 13 March 2013 "e-Exams transforming curriculum"
Presenter: Andrew Fluck (University of Tasmania, Australia)
This webinar will introduce a system used in higher education and for pre-tertiary entrance examinations. The advantages include a BYOD (bring your own device) approach for equipment provision, and provision of an identical full computer context for every candidate. This makes it very cost effective. The open-source e-Exam System software provides easy innovation adoption. The presenter will discuss ways technology in assessment can provide opportunities for transforming content knowledge in curriculum, and varied approaches to 'fairness and equity' in high stakes testing.
