Professorial salary is in the range £59,072 to £101,661 per annum inclusive
of London Allowance, dependent on assessment through the College
Professorial Pay Banding Scheme.
Applications are invited for a permanent post at Professorial level in the
Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London. The
successful applicant will play a leading role in the Departmentıs Social and
Cultural research group. We invite applicant who are educated to PhD level
or equivalent, demonstrate an outstanding international research profile,
publishing monographs and/or in top tier academic journals. You will have an
ability to attract PhD projects, and a proven track record in gaining
research funding.
We welcome applicants from across the discipline of Human Geography, but
particularly from applicants with expertise that engages with and extends
the work of Social & Cultural Geography at Royal Holloway (SCG). This Group
has played a major role in the development of the subject internationally
over the last twenty years. The Group has a distinctive record of research
in the arts and humanities as well as the social sciences. SCG has been home
to research on place, landscape and mobility, creative and collaborative
geographies, transnational material cultures, visual cultures of
exploration, print culture and travel, hospitality and multi-culturalism,
and urban modernities. SCG values both empirical and theoretically-informed
research in a variety of contexts, both contemporary and historical. The
Group has a large PhD community, and runs a successful MA in Cultural
Geography.
We offer a dynamic and supportive environment, in an internationally
recognized department that ranks among the best in the UK for research (UK
RAE), and has some of the best ratings in the UK for any discipline from our
students for teaching (UK NSS). The Department has excellent facilities
including digital facilities for qualitative and creative work. The
Department is also notable for its commitment to collaborative research, and
the SCG in particular has collaborations with a variety of leading
institutions in the UK cultural sector, including the Science Museum, V&A
Museum, National Maritime Museum, Museum of London, British Library, British
Museum, Natural History Museum, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the RGS-IBG.
The Department has two other research groups, in Politics, Development and
Sustainability, and the Centre for Quaternary Research. Further details of

The College was ranked 88th in the Times HE World University Rankings 2010
and currently maintains a position in the top 120. This is a full time and
permanent post based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a
beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting
distance from London.
