Emmanuelle Labeau
Présidente de l’AFLS

***************
Dear colleagues,
The 1st January 2013 not only launches a new year during which I wish you health, happiness and success, but also our new AFLS website that concludes the project started in September 2011 to make the association more visible in the new media. We opened over the last few months Facebook and Twitter accounts that are now integrated in a new website with a more contemporary design and reviewed contents. I am grateful to the AFLS committee for their contribution and especially to our website officer, Jonathan Kasstan, for his tremendous work!
The website contains new categories aiming at reinforcing contacts and dialogue between, the Committee and the membership, as well as between members. Some innovations are worth noting:

- Committee members will take turn to write a monthly blog to discuss headlines or personal interests linked to our activities. I devote the first instalment to the development of interest of encouraging actions in favour of foreign language learning in the UK: http://afls.net/la-fin-du-tout-a-langlais-en-grande-bretagne/

- The AFLS member of the month will allow us to get to know each other better. Professor Jim Coleman, one of the longest-standing member, was kind enough to launch the series: http://afls.net/home/feature/ . Each month, an AFLS member and their work will be celebrated: why not you? Do not hesitate to contact me if you have a project or a publication to promote!

- The ‘Tandem’ Initiative embodies the internationalisation that the Association has been striving for in the last few years. In a context where researchers are increasingly required to publish in a foreign language, it may be difficult to achieve native-like performance. The help of bilinguals or even translators may prove disappointing and / or costly. Tandem suggests a new approach: an English-speaking AFLS member teams up with a French-speaking member with similar research interests and partners offer each other mutual proofreading of their works. To enrol for Tandem: http://afls.net/tandem/
The AFLS committee very much hopes these new initiatives will serve members better: do not hesitate to send us your comments, suggestions for improvement or innovation.
… and in order to keep this virtual dialogue going face to face during our annual conference in sunny Perpignan (6th- 8th June), do not forget to send your abstract by 14th January: http://afls.net/final-call-for-papers-afls-perpignan-2013/

Looking forward to meeting you in 2013,

Emmanuelle Labeau
AFLS President
