Reminder: Next Live Transforming Assessment Session: Wednesday, 5 December 2012 "The Learning Thermometer: A web-based tool to improve student learning outcomes" [via JISC email lists]
Presenter: Helen Stallman (University of Queensland, Australia)
Teaching, learning, support and student wellbeing are rarely student focused or user-friendly.
The Learning Thermometer is an online tool that integrates teaching, learning and support to improve student wellbeing and self-management. It allows students to reflect upon their learning, receive tailored feedback about strategies, resources, and support, and to develop individual learning plans aimed at optimising their success in the course. Teaching staff benefit by receiving group data at four points during the semester delivered in time for corrective adjustments to be made to the course. Data is collected on progress towards learning outcomes, usefulness of the learning environment and usefulness of course resources. Summary data is also available at the end of the semester covering teaching value, student satisfaction and student engagement measures. Audience participation and the sharing of experiences is encouraged.
Hosted by Geoffrey Crisp (RMIT University, Australia) and Dr Mathew Hillier (Teaching and Educational Development Institute, University of Queensland, Australia).
