I am a new member to the group and am going to introduce myself, as recommended!
I am a hospital based, rotational midwife. I have been a midwife for 17 years now, and have done 13 years of that on community/integrated. I worked in london for 13 years (Guy's, The Whittington and Lewisham) and for the last 4 years in the North East of England (Durham and RVI). I am also a Supervisor of Midwives.
I am currently doing a practice project for a masters degree. I am looking at implementing documented, individualised plans of care for women who request care outside of guidelines and against the recommendations of obstetricians. The plans of care would include the risks involved, that the woman is fully aware of these, the offer of an alternative and her reasons for making her choice. Examples of this are VBAC homebirths, VBAC poolbirths, intermittent monitoring and pool birth with SGA babies, increased BMI women requesting homebirths, to mention a few.
I am eager to know if this is being done anywhere else and also other's views on this.
I look forward to some replies.
Many thanks.
