We are an expanding, enthusiastic and open-minded group of qualitative researchers and lecturers forming part of an interdisciplinary team of social researchers in quantitative and qualitative methods who provide MSc and PhD level methods training to students from across the LSE. Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Qualitative Research Methodology

Salary for Senior Lecturer starts from £48,446 pa inclusive

Salary for Lecturer starts from £40,634 pa inclusive



The Department of Methodology seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Qualitative Research Methodology,

but will also consider appointing at Lecturer level for a candidate with potential if no suitable applications are

received at Senior Lecturer level. Candidates must demonstrate research interests and teaching experience

in areas of qualitative research methodology that will complement the Department’s existing strengths in this

field.



You will carry out teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as conducting research. You

will be able to demonstrate achievement and research potential in any area of the social sciences and/or

methodology of social research, as evidenced by high quality and high impact publications; as well as

strengths in qualitative research methods that are used in the empirical social sciences. Your research will

demonstrate a commitment to methodological development, systematisation and/or tool making in any area

of qualitative research, although applications from candidates specialising in text analysis, spatial

dimensions, or with expertise in a range of qualitative interview methods are particularly encouraged. You

will have a commitment to high-quality teaching of methodology at a postgraduate level, as well as a

completed PhD by the time of taking up the post.



The appointee will be expected to collaborate with another academic departments in the School that shares his

or her research interests, taking an active role in the departmental activities of their respective disciplines,

activities which may include affiliation with research centres, participation in disciplinary seminars, co-supervision

of research students in the discipline, and research collaboration. Current staff of the Department of Methodology

have disciplinary connections to the LSE departments of Government, Social Policy, Sociology, Social

Psychology, and Statistics, depending on their backgrounds and disciplinary training. Applications are invited

from candidates in any discipline of the social sciences or empirical research methodology.



To be considered for a Senior Lecturer role, you will need an established publication record including at least

four articles since January 2008 that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, rigour and

significance, at least two of which must be world leading. You will also have a substantial track record in

teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level, in a suitable area of qualitative research methods, together

with experience of undertaking class administration.



To be considered for a Lecturer role, you will need an established publication record including at least one

article since January 2008 that is internationally excellent in terms of originality, rigour and significance. You

will also some teaching experience at undergraduate/post graduate level in one or more of the main areas

covered by the Department of Methodology.



The appointment will be from 1 September, 2013 with an earlier date negotiable.

methodology. As one of the only dedicated, proper university departments of social science methodology in

the world, the Department of Methodology provides a focus for methodological activities at the School, in

particular in the areas of research student training and methodological research. Information about the
