Hello
Although the CLA HE Licences lists printed music in its category of excluded materials, the Copyright Designs and Patents Act allows us to photocopy materials which includes printed music, if the purpose of that photocopying meets the criteria for fair dealing in the cases of either research/private study; criticism and review.
In the case where sheet music is necessary for a performance which will be assessed, the original and not a photocopy of the music must be used in the exam text/performance piece.
Maybe something to consider for the text of an accompanying warning sticker, if we think it's important to make full use of the fair dealing exemptions in the CDPA?
I don't know how you fit that all onto a sticker?
Thank you,

Subject: Printed music and copyright
Hello all,
(Apologies for cross-posting.)
We have just purchased some anthology titles of printed music. Printed music is one of the items not covered by our Copyright Licence and therefore mustn't be photocopied by our users. We want to advertise this beyond the Licence poster that is displayed above our photocopiers and have been thinking about sticking a label perhaps to the front of the books (although am worried that this could become tatty). What do you do? I look forward to any words of inspiration!
Kind regards,
Rachel
