The School has a large student body - 1200 medical students, more than 1300 students in postgraduate courses and nearly 1000 students undertaking higher research degrees and major undergraduate teaching programs in medical and health sciences.
The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (NCIRS) receives funding under agreements with the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) and NSW Health as well as external grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) the Australian Research Council (ARC) and others. The Centre is affiliated with the University of Sydney and staff may have appointments within the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health and the School of Public Health. It is based at the Childrens Hospital at Westmead within the Kids Research Institute.
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated researcher to contribute to research projects focussed on quantitative data analysis of surveys investigating immunisation knowledge, attitudes and practices of consumers, providers and other stakeholders and will require research project management skills. The role may also involve undertaking systematic reviews and some involvement in qualitative studies. The position also involves communicating with stakeholders in government and other relevant organisations involved in immunisation policy and practice and some postgraduate teaching and supervision.
To succeed in securing this role you will have:
postgraduate qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution (eg, psychology, public health, social sciences) with a reasonable level of research experience or other relevant scholarly training experience in social sciences research methods, including questionnaire development, validation, participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis with demonstrated outputs a broad understanding of the range of determinants of health behaviour with demonstrated theoretical knowledge proficiency in analysis of quantitative social sciences data and familiarity with statistical procedures such as multivariate analysis and logistic regression experience in the use of relevant computer packages including Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook) and Endnote (or equivalent); experience in using relevant statistical analysis software (eg, SPSS, SAS) superior verbal and written communication skills including ability to clearly communicate with a wide range of people and organisations a demonstrated organisational and administrative abilities including project management, planning, attention to detail, flexibility and time management; a demonstrated understanding of Australian immunisation programs (desirable).
