Hello,
I am chair of the Harris Disability Access Panel in the Western Isles. I have had a query from a service provider that I would most appreciate your advice on. They are building a self catering accommodation and are putting in an accessible toilet. They have seen other accessible toilets with the padded back rest and wondered if it would be better to put one in their premise rather than a closed coupled toilet. I believe the cistern is higher on the toilets with the padded back rest. I understand it is beneficial for those that may wish use the toilet as a seat to change a colostomy bag or administer medication. For this reason I would be inclined to advise this over the closed couple toilet. What are your views on this? Are there any other benefits for either choice?
Also I would like to take this opportunity to as where is the best place to put a colostomy bag shelf? I find guidance is unclear on this.
I would be most grateful for any help.
Kind Regards,
Lucy
