There was quite a long discussion about PhDs and SciComm jobs on psci-comm earlier this year -- if you search "Sci-com and the PhD" in the list archive at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/psci-com.html you'll find it.
Best,
Wynn

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Is a PhD necessary for jobs in science communication?
Hi
Advice would be appreciated! I have recently graduated with a Masters degree in Chemistry and have been working on science communication and outreach events for both the RSC ChemNet and STEM Ambassador schemes. I am very interested in pursuing a career in science communications but am unsure as to whether a PhD is necessary for this role. I understand that having a PhD will provide a certain amount of credibility in academic environments, but is this qualification completely necessary or just an added bonus? And is it likely that some doors will close to science communicators without a PhD? Also, what is the best way to gain experience in science communications before looking for a job - an internship or Masters qualification?
Thanks for your help!
Vicki
