Hi
We are interested in what other libraries think and do about students who save seats, either by leaving their belongings on a desk when they go out of the library or by spreading their things over the area of 2 seats.
We also want to know what you do when it is difficult for students to find an available seat in your library.
If you could answer these questions (apologies that there are so many), it would really help to inform our discussions with our Student Guild and university/library colleagues.
I am happy to post cumulative responses.
Does you library:
1. ... Have a formal policy about not saving seats in your rules and regulations?
2. ... Have information about not saving seats on your web pages?
3. ... Tweet about not saving seats?
4. ... Discuss not saving seats on facebook?
5. ... Have posters about not saving seats?
6. ... Receive complaints from students about the problem of other students saving seats?
7. ... Receive complaints from students about not being able to find an available seat?
8. ... Have any extra flexible seating (folding chairs)?
9. ... Have lockers that students can use to store their belongings?
10. ... Tweet / facebook / or use other social media when the library is particularly full?
11. ... Tweet / facebook / or use other social media when you have available seats?
12. Are your library staff confident in handling any complaints or difficulties arising from saving seats?
13. Do library staff leave notices / warnings on desks about not saving seats?
14, Do library staff move belongings out of the way to free up a seat?
Any other information you would like to relay would be helpful.
With thanks,
Kathy
