As you say Alistair exciting times!
Also just to clarify with the Xenith code in place, as it is in this Techdis
installation, when you create a new LO, edit an existing one, or import as
you have done with Katherine's example, it doesn't create a separate
learning object or any kind of conversion. You still create and edit in the
same way as previously and that authoring side still requires Flash player
to work. However what you automatically have is two different ways to play
the LO's e.g. via Flash or via HTML5. So it's the same content just two
different players. At a basic level it's author once for desktop, laptop and
mobile delivery! However I think it's a bit more complicated than that
because of how different mobile devices work especially the difference
between tablets and smartphones etc and I think there could be recipes on
those considerations too.
At the moment there are two different play links and that may still be
useful even when we have auto-detection in place e.g. the ability to view
the non-mobile view even on a mobile device.
Roughly 40+ of the Flash page types are already available via the HTML5
player so there's already plenty of potential for creating engaging and
interactive cross-platform mobile device compatible LO's.
Exciting stuff indeed!

Thanks John for sharing this. It's always useful to have a range of
resources to help people get started.
If anyone else has Xerte guides, PowerPoints etc that you use with staff
development we're interested in hearing from you to add to the Community
site.
The Xenith project that Ron mentioned below is gathering pace and many of
the Xerte page type templates can already create iPad and mobile friendly
versions. What's even better is that your existing learning objects will be
able to do the same. For example Katharine Reedy posted some Open University
learning objects to this list recently. We uploaded one into our test server
and this html5 version was created automatically and instantly.

John
why on earth would you set about creating a 'cheat version' to run via html5
when we already have the Xenith code built-in to XOT? The iSpring convertor
that you've used is also quite fussy about browser version etc.
There'll be little need for the Flash playback version apart from perhaps
use during f2f sessions, but certainly no need to create a separate version
for use on iPads etc http://mitchellmedia.co.uk/455
I'd wait until around 7th Dec when XOT 1.9 should be released.

Hi everyone,
I'm having a go at producing a 'Beginners Guide to XOT' as a little thought
project and felt that I ought to share it with you before I went too far
down this particular path and see what you thought of it.
The object consists of a link to a short HTML5 video ( on page 2) which
covers the very start of understanding how to construct a new Learning
Object, its then followed by a short quiz to test understanding.
Since the 'bones' of it, - the HTML5 video - will also work on an ipad, I
decided to have a go at producing an HTML5 'cheat' version of the xerte
object which should also run on an iPad or iPhone. If you open it up on
either it should run the 'cheat' version.
You can find it at:
http://www.jwhlearning.co.uk/xot/
(Can't do anything about the Lancashire accent though!)
I know there are accessibility implications of having a 'non-standard'
background and a moving object at the start and end.
It should work with most (hopefully all newer browsers).
Please take a look and let me know your thoughts.
John
