The lavish book "The Book of the British Library" by Michael Leapman,
recently published, mentions at page 141 the manuscripts which
Kipling, Carrie or Elsie donated ; page 143 reproduces the ink
drawing "The Elephant's Child", this large reproduction shows the
markings on the python's skin are more delicately shaded than in the
published "Just So Stories" where they have become darker.
Page 143 mentions the Library's draft of the poem "After" which
became "Recessional" and a manuscript amendment of "Thy
people" which was dropped.
