Dear CRUMB list
as we prepare for the next theme I thought I would chime in with a few thoughts:
I've just returned from Bergen where the Lydgalleriet hosted the excellent three-day symposium Ephemeral Sustainability about the presentation/curating/documenting of sound art practices. There were papers from theorists and writers as well as curators such as Nicole Gingras (MTL Biennial) and Barbara London (MoMA) - we are hoping some proceeds will be published, so keep an eye out, but it was interesting to hear some of the same difficulties we have had with new media art vs. contemporary / visual art are encountered by the sound art crowd also. We should join forces!

Next week Marialaura Ghidini is participating in a Conversation about Curating at Lux in London

Is anyone on the list attending the ChArt conference or The Besides the Screen conference (Goldsmiths), both in London later this month? I'd be happy to hear reports on that, and on the Remediating the Social conference just gone in Edinburgh, if anyone has any thoughts they'd like to feed back to the list.
Lastly, our thoughts and sympathies with the art world in New York affected by Sandy - particularly Printed Matter and Eyebeam who both have sustained serious storm surge water damage. Eyebeam is in the process of cleaning and restoring its electronic, digital and electric art lab equipment, and its archive of cds, floppy discs, videotapes, hard drives! Anyone in New York with expertise, or a few hours who can go help, please do!
til soon,
Sarah
