Research day at Kingston University London, 23 January 2013
Composition, review, and peers: An interrogation of criticism and evaluation at the intersection of composition and academic practices
Criticism, review, and evaluation are pervasive in both academic and artistic practices. But they perform different functions, are utilised for different aims, and take different shapes. The aim of this research day is to shine a spotlight on the practice of evaluating composition within an academic environment. In order to highlight some of the factors that impact on the evaluation process we will present a panel of guest composers with works from a range of musical styles and compositional approaches. Participants include Christopher Fox, Jo Thomas, and cellist Anton Lukoszevieze who will also be performing at the event.
