Hi Graham,
Science Gallery are using Google Apps for our email, calendar, shared
calendars, calendar resources (like rooms, projectors etc), groups for
internal mailing lists and drive quite extensively.
We migrated on there about 3 years ago and haven't had many issues - user
acceptance wasn't a problem as most people are familiar with the gmail
interface and for those who still want to use desktop clients it'll handle
smtp & imap so they can continue to use them, we're all set up with SPF and
DKIM so all emails are digitally signed as coming from us
All in all we're very happy
