Hi everyone,
I would agree with Sheila's idea about communicating largely by email.
My mentor is based in Glasgow and I'm in Edinburgh, so not too far away really, however busy working lives means that we do most of our chatting via email.
I have found that this is working really well so I would recommend this to others.
If you feel the need to talk in "real time" you could always chat on the telephone (or use Skype/web-ex if you have access to the facilities)
Best wishes

Thinking about those who are having difficulty finding a suitable mentor, may I suggest that people consider (a) taking a mentor from a different geographical area and working largely by email and (b) accepting a mentor from a different area of the profession?
With busy working lives, using email as the main means of communication is often practical even where people actual live and/or work quite close together, and a mentor from a different sphere of information work can have a usefully different view.
