Well they assume a shared home so all the files are present in all nodes and all results are always accessible immediately. You can in your script move to some scratch area, but not using stagein-out. I was as surprised as you, but I have confirmed from slurm guys that this is indeed the case. In theory you can have sbcast broadcast the input file from headnode (it's for diskless clients etc) or smth, but that's not quite equivalent.
