Dear colleagues,
I'm currently working on a project that digitally records all letters by the German writer and 1912 Nobel prize winner Gerhart Hauptmann. The project is based at the Freie Universität Berlin, associated with the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, and financed by the German Research Council. Since the project's goal is to allow researchers from all over the world access to records and documents vital for 20th-century German Studies, we are trying to assemble as complete a record as possible. For this aim we rely on your support.
As Gerhart Hauptmann was in contact with British scholars and authors as well German refugees in the United Kingdom, it is quite possible that some of his letters found their way to British archives. I would be very grateful if you could let me know if there are any letters by Gerhart Hauptmann among your collection or if you know anything about archives holding them. If you should have archived letters by Hauptmann, we would be thankful for the approximate number of letters, and, only if it is not too much trouble, possible addressees.
Thank you very much for your help! Please let me know if I can be of any assistance or if you have any questions. We look forward to working closely with British scholars and archives in the future.
Kind regards,
Dr. Tim Lörke
