Thanks. I agree - HEIs should not stop offering services after 6 months. We (Careers) offer a service for life to graduates. Central provision of a post-graduation login helps us with very recent graduates, but the 6 month cut-off shouldn't limit institutions in what they offer. It may just change the way they provide it.
I can see why there is a cut-off for central accounts - and it may never be the case that HEIs will provide this indefinitely. So I think perhaps the best routes to explore for careers services are the alumni office ('email for life' or an alumni website with registration) or any online careers system you might use/consider.
I think it's fair to say that whenever we are involved in looking at a new system, we're interested in the possibility for graduates to use it.
If you are or have access to someone fairly technical, it's not that difficult to set up new/hybrid login systems to enable you to give graduates access to content. E.g. if you have access to a database which stores alumni email addresses, you can couple this with an existing login system like Open Authentication(/Google login) or even Facebook to allow people to log in. There are lots of things to consider, of course, but I can see a lot of potential here.
Thanks
Chris
