Social and Cultural Geography Research Group Call for Sessions AC2013
The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is pleased to announce that the Call for Sessions and Papers has opened for its Annual International Conference 2013 (AC2013). The conference will be chaired by Professor Jonathan Rigg (Durham University) and its theme will be ‘New geographical frontiers’.
Date: Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th August (opening reception evening of Tuesday 27th August)
Location: Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), London
We would like to invite proposals for Social and Cultural Geography Research Group (SCGRG) sponsored sessions. We are looking to sponsor a number of sessions at the RGS this year that showcase the diversity and vitality of current social and cultural geography and ideally, relate to the conference theme.
This year’s theme is ‘new geographical frontiers’ which can be taken as a concept, a metaphor or as a point of empirical focus through which sessions might address a range of issues, including those of particular relevance to the research group. Such as:
• Interdisciplinary between the traditional science and the arts, humanities and social sciences
• National academic traditions in theory and practice, especially those that cross language divides
• Innovation and new frontiers in public engagement/creativity
• New spatial ‘frontiers’ (e.g. subterranean, water, outer-space geographies)
• New digital ‘frontiers’
• Social AND Cultural geography
Research group sponsorship helps to ensure wide advertisement and helps to prevent timetabling clashes with other sessions likely to interest similar people. Proposals should be of no more than one page, outlining the topic, its connection to current concerns in social and cultural geography, the format of the session (paper sessions or otherwise – see AC2013 website for ideas on innovative sessions) and the number of anticipated slots required.
1 page proposals for SCGRG sponsored sessions should be sent to Peter Adey ([log in to unmask]) AND Sarah Mills ([log in to unmask]) by 7th December 2012 to be considered by the SCGRG committee. Thank you.
