Consultancy Skills, 22 January, Roland Caulcutt and Julie Bullen

A highly participative workshop for statisticians who wish to improve their ability to help non-statistical clients.  Discussions and interactive exercises will allow participants to explore the non-statistical issues that can undermine effective consultancy.

Latent Trait and Latent Class Analysis for Multigroup Data using MPlus and R, 11 & 12 February, Jouni Kuha, Irini Moustaki and Sally Stares 

Latent variable models are a broad family of models that can be used to capture abstract concepts by means of multiple (continuous and/or categorical) indicators. They are often best known in the form of factor analysis and structural equation models. Day 1 introduces participants to latent trait models (continuous latent variables) and latent class models (discrete latent variables) and Day 2 to multiple group latent trait and latent class analyses. The course provides training in the use of the MPlus programme to carry out the analyses.

Presenting Data, Ed Swires-Hennessy

This one day course is the foundation to all presentations of statistical information. The basic principles of presenting information in tables, charts, maps and text are explained. These are illustrated and then reinforced through practical exercises.

Introduction to Categorical Data Analysis, 20 & 21 August, Alan Agresti

This short course surveys the most common methods for analysing categorical data. The first day focuses on contingency table analysis, logistic regression modelling of binary data, and log-linear models. The second day introduces logistic models for multi-category ordinal and nominal responses for clustered data using GEE and random effects. The presentation emphasizes interpretation rather than technical details, with examples including randomized clinical trials and social surveys. Examples show the use of R and SAS, with references for STATA and SPSS procedures. The final two-hour block each day will be a practical session in which attendees can gain experience using the methods and ask questions.

Introduction to modelling in R, 31 October & 1 November, Paul Baxter

The purpose of this course is to introduce participants to the R environment for statistical computing. Day 1 of the course focuses on entering, working with and visualising data in R. Day 2 focuses on regression modelling in R, including linear, general linear, logistic and survival models.
