Post-doctoral Research Biostatistician position available with
Victorian Centre for Biostatistics (ViCBiostat), Melbourne, Australia

We are seeking a full time Research Fellow in Biostatistics to join the
Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit (CEBU) at MCRI on an
initial 2-year contract. This position is one of a number associated
with a new centre for research in biostatistics that has been
established in Melbourne with funding from Australia's National Health &
Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The Victorian Centre for Biostatistics
(ViCBiostat) is a collaborative cross-institutional venture led by
biostatisticians at the MCRI, Monash University, and the University of
Melbourne. Appointments at post-doctoral level form the core workforce
of this cross-institutional centre, with the broad aim of fostering the
careers of a new generation of biostatistical leaders around an
integrated program of methodological and collaborative research. We are
seeking individuals with a PhD in statistics or a closely related
discipline who wish to develop a career combining research in
biostatistical methodology with applications in population health. The
successful applicant will be expected to develop their own research
program, preferably related to one or more of the ViCBiostat research
themes led by Professor John Carlin and Associate Professor Michael
Coory. Collaborative engagement with research in paediatrics and child
and adolescent health at the MCRI will be strongly encouraged.

You will be responsible for:

* Performing methodological studies, including the development or
evaluation of statistical methods through an appropriate combination of
theoretical work, computer simulation studies and critically evaluated
case studies;
* Modifying and implementing existing statistical methods for
epidemiological data, including contributing to collaborative research
output;
* Reading, interpreting and synthesising recent biostatistical
literature in specific areas;
*       Publishing scientific manuscripts based on the research work;
* Contributing to writing and obtaining grant applications.

Key selection criteria:

* A PhD in biostatistics, statistics or closely related
discipline;
* Experience in performing complex data manipulation and
statistical analysis in a statistical package with a flexible
programming language such as Stata, R or SAS;
*       Record of publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles;
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
