We have been asked to draw attention to two vacancies from April 2013 for
Secretary of State appointed independent Members of the North York Moors
National Park Authority.
National Park Authorities have wide powers in relation to their National
Park, including planning, conservation, recreation, education and
publicity. The majority of the Members are appointed by the various local
authorities for the Park's area, but the Secretary of State for
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs also appoints a number Independent
Members with special knowledge and interests relevant to the management of
each Park, and who serve for an initial period of four years.
Though Members are by definition independent, in view of the importance of
the National Park in geological terms it would be very good indeed to see
someone with geological interests, and particularly a YGS member,
appointed to one of the vacancies.
The Secretary of State has just announced that he is seeking applications
for two forthcoming Independent Member vacancies on the North York Moors
National Park, and is looking for people with expertise and interests in
the areas of conservation, education and work with young people.
Full details of the vacancies can be accessed through the Ministry's
website at: http://www.defra.gov.uk/rural/national-parks/ which then has
links to the Cabvinet Office's Public Appointments website where you will
find the full documentation including the application form.
Note that the closing date is 16th November.
