Operational Duties
• Has overall daily responsibility of MRI research imaging lab operations, including quality assurance of scanner function and safety of participants and researchers
• Supervises the set up, testing, and troubleshooting of experiment hardware and software for new fMRI protocols to ensure accurate and efficient data collection
• Managing use and documentation of experiment hardware (button boxes, mock scanner, eyetracker, etc.) and software (SPM/FSL/AFNI analysis packages, E-Prime)
• Meets with new and potential users to describe FERN resources, opportunities, and policies and to foster new research collaborations
• Operates Siemens 3T Trio
• Coordinates with Siemens and field engineers for necessary maintenance
• Maintains necessary supplies (e.g. linens, ear plugs, and other consumables)
• Exercises considerable latitude, independent judgment, and accountability in overseeing the MRI research daily operations schedule and technical environment.
• Functions as a skilled individual contributor and independently performs a wide range of highly technical, complex MRI research imaging tests and neuroscientific research procedures that require an adept application of scientific methodology.
• Actively collaborates in the design, development and implementation of large and/or complex research experiments and new techniques.
• Trains research staff in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts to ensure project is administered according to research protocol.
• Shares expertise in equipment operation and laboratory techniques. Refines/adapts methodologies to fit specific experiment requirements. Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results.
• Provides quality care to the volunteers participating in research procedures. Ensures that participants have been prepared for procedures.
• Communicates participant needs and responses through appropriate verbal and written correspondence.
Managerial Duties
• Oversees and Assists with research scheduling, modifications and cancellations of schedules daily.
• Coordinates pilot time request and review process
• Provides backup scanner coverage as needed
• Oversees and monitors safety training and compliance protocols
• Assists in the development and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Prepares monthly operational reports for expenditure tracking and management.
• Maintains documentation for internal and external regulatory purposes.
• Maintains database of information for principal investigators, staff and necessary stakeholders.
• Manages databases for research imaging protocols, necessary equipment and data acquisition.
• Assists with budget planning process.
• Schedules and coordinates Routine and Emergent events regarding MRI system maintenance and repair.
• Manages Shipping and Receiving of all products and services required for Imaging services section.
• Develops, coordinates, and implements in-service activities and initiatives.
• Assists in the development of communication materials directed toward research multiple Primary Investigators and their teams.
• Plans protocol, develops policies and establishes standards and procedures for the research imaging unit.
• Performs/Assists in the logistical planning and coordination of in-services, special events, conferences, and meetings.
• Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives.
• Supervision of administrative staff
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years experience in MRI operations
• Advanced degree in field related to neuroimaging desirable, or bachelor’s degree with 10 years experience, or Certified Radiology Technician with 15 years experience and demonstration of technical knowledge
• Minimum 2 years management or administration experience
