Dear Colleagues
In my role as Co-Founder of the Archives and Artefacts Study Network (A2SN) I have been party to discussion about and used in my own research the Great Eastern Society's digital publications. Those associated with A2SN received the following from Bill King, the GER Society Chair and I thought that Bill's words were worthy of a wider public. The publications themselves are excellent research tools, but here is an opportunity for Archives, Museums and other interested Societies to profit from the GER experience as well as making helpful suggestions. From Bill King
I know that there has been a lot of communication amongst you about the various magazines that the Great Eastern Railway Society has digitised. They are the Great Eastern Railway Magazine 1911 - 1926, the LNER Magazine 1927 - 1947 and the British Railways Magazine (Eastern Region) 1948 - 1963. We are very pleased to hear that you regard our work as of value.
The scanning and digitisation of the magazines and the reproduction of the mastered discs has been carried out professionally but funded entirely by the Society. Manipulation of the digitised files into useful documents, mastering, preparation of disc artwork - and the original concept - has been by the Society.
You may also know that we offer over 700 historical documents for download on our Files Emporium. We continue to add to this collection. In this case, the entire project has been undertaken by members of the Great Eastern Railway Society. Very many members have been involved over the course of the last 20 years or so.
We are now looking to move on to another project and would be glad to consider any suggestions that you might put forward. If we can provide any assistance with the work that you are undertaking, or intend to undertake in the future, then please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be delighted to share our skills and experiences with you.
With kind regards,
Bill King
