Dear all,
The next talk of the expository seminar series will be held this Thursday 1 November at 14.30 in room 306 of the Alan Turing Building. The speaker is Nick Gill.
TITLE. Finite simple groups I
ABSTRACT. This is the first of two talks on the Classification of Finite Simple Groups. In this first talk we describe most of the finite simple groups, giving a little of the history of their discovery, and some of their key properties. We do not cover all of the sporadic simple groups as these will crop up naturally in the second talk, when we discuss how the classification came to be proved.
