Regionalism and Representation
26th April 2013, University of Warwick
CALL FOR PAPERS
In April 2013, Professor Philip Payton, Director of the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter, will spend a week at the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) at the University of Warwick as a Visiting Fellow. As part of his visit, Dr Gemma Goodman (English) and Dr Rachel Moseley (Film and Television Studies), in conjunction with the IAS, will host a one-day interdisciplinary symposium, 'Regionalism and Representation' and invite abstracts of 200 words for twenty minute papers on aspects of region, identity and representation. Questions of regionality are increasingly significant in a wide range of disciplines including Literary Studies, Film and Television Studies, Theatre Studies, History, Geography and Cultural Policy and it is hoped that this event will enable us to think productively about region and representation across multiple fields of study. The organisers hope that the symposium will also be able to welcome cultural practitioners and policy makers as well as academic colleagues. Topics might include, but are not limited to:
➢ Region and Nation
➢ Space, Place and the Rural
➢ Regional Archives and Resources
➢ Literature, Film, Television, Radio, Theatre and Fine Arts
➢ Cultural Policy, Tourism
➢ Landscape
➢ Regional Relationships
➢ Centre/Periphery Dynamics
➢ Regional and Personal Identity
➢ Alternative Views of Regionalism
Please email abstracts by 31st December 2012 to either [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]
