Web Developer

Stratford-upon-Avon



In-house software development plays a key role in our commercial and customer related activities, as well as our internal operational activities.



The RSC is looking for a Web Developer to get involved with various in-house software developments, including the RSC website, intranet and other bespoke applications using the Microsoft .Net framework.



This post will also involve a high level of interaction with our users, discussing their requirements, designing solutions, developing and implementing.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

*         To develop new software which meets the requirements of the RSC, using the
Microsoft .NET framework.

*         To support existing in-house developments, by dealing with bug fixes or product
enhancements.

*         To work with the users to identify requirements and design applications.

*         To work together with other members of the technical teams to analyse and rectify
any problems which occur on our website, ensuring that it runs effectively and
efficiently.

*         Manage RSC source code using the Visual Source Safe source control system.

*         To liaise with web designers and stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve
design issues.

*         To ensure any software produced is W3C compliant.


This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the employee may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required and at the discretion of their Line Manager.
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:


*         Either formal and extensive web development training or two years of web
development experience in a business environment.

*         Experience or sound knowledge of web development using Microsoft .NET and
Visual Studio

*         HTML, CSS and Javascript skills

*         Strong analytical skills

*         Good interpersonal and communication skills

*         A conscientious and thorough approach to the work

*         Tenacity to pursue an issue to a satisfactory conclusion

*         The initiative and reliability to work unsupervised
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:
Any of the following would be advantageous, though not essential:

*         C#

*         Experience or knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3, and the jQuery library for
Javascript

*         Experience or sound knowledge of the delivery of multimedia content to the
web using Acrobat products and Macromedia Flash

*         Experience or knowledge of the Red Dot content management system (or similar)

*         Experience or knowledge of issues around the use of multimedia including
content collection, manipulation and storage

*         Knowledge of W3C standards

*         Awareness of web accessibility issues such as BOBBY compliance

*         Knowledge of XML

*         Web design experience

*         Knowledge of Windows 7  and Windows 2008 server

*         Experience with managing Microsoft IIS
FURTHER INFORMATION
This post is part of the Information Technology Department and is based in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Normal working hours will be 35 per week, Monday, to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00pm.

All staff though are expected show a flexible attitude when required, to ensure that the needs of the RSC are met.



This position is offered as a permanent contract subject to successful completion of a probationary period.
