Final CFP: Christian Kracht colloquium @ Leeds Humanities Research Institute, Tuesday 20th November

On Tuesday 20th November there will be a full-day conference on the work of Christian Kracht at the University of Leeds.
This colloquium, attended by the author, seeks to explore a number of issues relating to the cultural impact and reception of works by Christian Kracht. It brings together German and English-language scholarship on the author’s work and picks up on recent explorations of Kracht’s interdisciplinarity and intermediality as well as journalistic reception of the author's work. The organisers also welcome papers where Kracht might be one of several authors considered.
It is envisaged that delegates will be addressing this subject from a number of disciplinary perspectives and presentations on the following subjects would be particularly welcome:
* Travel
* Place, space the location of the subject
* Aesthetics & kitsch
* History and ‘posthistory’
* Dystopia and Utopia
* Empire and postcolonialism
These and other related subjects will be considered for presentation at this conference. Abstracts (in German or English) of no more than 200 words for papers of 20 minutes should be sent to the conference organising committee at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> no later than Wednesday 31st October. All abstracts should include the proposer’s name, title, mailing address, email address and institutional affiliation.

Registration for the colloquium is now open. If you would like to attend, please send an email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> We will confirm your registration by email and will send details of the finalised programme and suggestions for travel to the venue and nearby accommodation.
The registration fee for the colloquium is £25. This fee is reduced to £15 for delegates presenting papers and postgraduate scholars. The conference fee can be paid in person on the day of the colloquium.
Reminder: Public reading at Leeds Central Library, Monday 19th November
2012 Wilhelm Raabe literature prize winner Christian Kracht will give a public reading from his latest novel Imperium (Empire) at Leeds Central Library on Monday 19th November. This will be the inaugural reading of the International Writers in Leeds series and will be delivered in German with English-language translations by Leeds University students.
The reading will start promptly at 5:30pm. All are most welcome to attend and there is no entrance fee for this public event. For more information on this event, please follow this link:
