Dear Sir/Madame,
I am a PhD research student at Queen Mary University of London and researching on practicable working environments for disabled academics at universities in United Kingdom. My inspiration is my own disability and my own struggle towards getting employment as a disabled academic in United Kingdom.
As we know already that the policies and practices in universities have made it very much possible and very much normal for students with disabilities to achieve higher education, but is this also the same for academics with disabilities, and their career development?
My focus is on disabled academics career development in the world of academia, and I would like to invite you to be part of my interview research. The interview shall cover the areas of employment opportunities, university environment, management, administration, work environment, behaviour and attitudes, stigma, and stereotypes.
I would appreciate it, if you could be part of my research interviews, however only agree to take part if you want to; it is entirely up to you. If you choose not to take part you will not be in any way disadvantaged. Please note a consent form shall be signed and given to you, confirming your anonymity and confidentiality as being part of the research.
I shall be looking forward to your response, if you are/are not interested in taking part in this research, or just finding out more information, I would really like to hear from you.
You’re sincerely,
Nadia Ahmed, PhD researcher
