The Wiener Library's new home at 29 Russell Square offers an excellent
venue for skills training, especially for students of the European
languages and the history and culture of twentieth-century Europe. A
half-day skills training workshop held at The Wiener Library in
collaboration with the Institute for Germanic & Romance Studies aims
to provide the following programme:
1pm-2pm - Archive Skills training with the Wiener Library's
longstanding archivist Howard Falksohn. This training session will
help students acquire skills to locate archival material on subjects
including: the Holocaust, twentieth-century German history and
European Jewish culture. It will also provide students with skills to
access these materials and make use of their content.
Half hour break Students advised to bring a packed lunch or take
advantage of nearby facilities if they prefer not to eat lunch before
the day begins
2.30pm-3.30pm - Seminar led by Anthony Grenville (Centre for Exile
Studies, IGRS). The seminar will focus on the experience of Jewish
refugees in exile in Britain.
Half-hour break
4pm - Tour of the Wiener Library (optional). This begins with a group
tour of the Library's exhibition Rescues of the Holocaust. After this
there will also be an opportunity for smaller groups to visit the
library collections in the basement.
