European cities to exchange experiences on quest to become cities of scientific culture
MEDIA ADVISORY
9 October 2012
TARTU, ESTONIA - Science communicators, innovators, and city representatives will gather in the university town of Tartu, Estonia, from 10-12 October 2012 for the 2nd PLACES Conference: Sharing Experiences.
The pairing of science communicators and policymakers is the essence of City Partnerships which are the backbone of PLACES - a European FP7-funded project which is striving to define the European City of Scientific Culture. PLACES cities understand that EU competitiveness means evolving into a more knowledge-based economy which incorporates science communication strategies and policies.
As the title of the conference implies, City Partnership representatives from all over Europe will share experiences as the second year of the PLACES project closes in. The event promises to be rich and diverse with roughly 70 European cities represented.
PLACES City Partnerships will report on their local science communication policy goals, challenges and achievements as they continue their quest to become the quintessential European City of Scientific Culture. City Partnership representatives from Trento, Italy, Brussels, Belgium and Bordeaux, France, will be available to speak with media about their city's PLACES developments.
Watch for up-to-the-moment social media reporting throughout the event including videos, photos and commentary at: www.openplaces.eu/conference.
The Tartu conference is co-convened by the European Science Events Association (Eusea) and Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums, which is the leading partner of the PLACES project.
Attendance is free of charge. For more information about the conference, including a full online programme, visit: www.openplaces.eu/conference. For more information about the PLACES project, visit: www.openplaces.eu/.
