WES Karen Burt ‘Best Newly Qualified Chartered Engineer’ Award Winner Announced
The Women’s Engineering Society is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2012 Karen Burt Award for the best newly qualified Chartered Engineer is Kate Cooksey from the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Kate is a tunnelling engineering employed by UK construction and infrastructure business Morgan Sindall, currently working on the Crossrail project. She has had an outstanding career to-date having been recognised on a number of occasions already for her contributions to engineering. A graduate in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University, Kate has been actively involved since her student days in the set-up of student and graduate groups to promote civil and tunnelling engineering, notably setting up the British Tunnelling Society Young Members Committee in 2008. In recognition of her achievements, Kate made the 2012 Management Today 35 Women Under 35 List, was a finalist of the Women of the Future Awards – Science and Technology Category – in 2009, and a finalist of the NCE Graduate Awards 2008.
The Karen Burt Award will be presented on 16th October 2012 at the Ada Lovelace Live! event in London – an evening of entertainment in celebration of women in STEM, which takes place at the IET London, Savoy Place WC2R 0BL, starting at 6.30pm. Tickets are £10 each or £5 for students and are on sale at www.wes.org.uk/ada - all welcome.
