Dear All,
Please find below information for positions as Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist at SMART.
Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist – Mobility Survey/Technology Development
Future Urban Mobility Interdisciplinary Research Group
SMART (Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology) invites applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist – Mobility Survey/Technology Development in its campus in Singapore.
Overview:
The evolution of advanced location-sensing and communications technologies has greatly impacted the realm of travel surveys. The Future Mobility Survey (FMS) currently takes advantage of these technologies by using smartphones to collect GPS, GSM, wi-fi and accelerometer data to provide detailed location information for purposes of a novel travel survey platform. The objective of the survey is to collect detailed location data to support and augment traditional survey methods and improve on-going transport modeling efforts. The FMS platform is currently being deployed as part of Singapore’s nation-wide Household Interview Travel Survey (HITS), and future plans include exploring the survey’s potential for use in freight studies, deployment via alternative technologies (such as dedicated GPS loggers), across different geographic regions, and in alternative experimental designs.
Job Description:
The postdoctoral associate/research scientist on this project will work on a variety of project aspects, including, but not limited to the following:
• Providing on-going coordination of survey efforts with the Singapore LTA and their consultants, along with overseeing the SMART-based FMS team.
• Conducting evaluation of the benefits of a smartphone-based activity and travel survey in comparison to traditional methods of transport surveying based on collected data.
• Coordinating survey efforts with on-going modelling work currently being conducted at SMART under the SimMobility project, particularly related to long- and medium-term transport/activity models.
• Exploring opportunities for further improvement, expansion and implementation of the FMS survey and related intelligence, particularly related to the areas of freight and energy.
• Exploration and analysis of collected data for publication and presentation in peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
Data collected through the FMS will be used to assist on-going modeling efforts at SMART; hence, close collaboration will be expected between the persons working on SimMobility and this position.
Requirements:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in transportation planning, engineering or a related field, with experience and knowledge related to emerging transportation technologies and their implementation and use. Experience with transportation surveys and their applications is expected, as is a strong background in statistical analysis.
Positive work attitude, good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams are necessary.
