I would suggest looking over:
(1) A population-average MRI-based atlas collection of the rhesus macaque.
McLaren DG, Kosmatka KJ, Oakes TR, Kroenke CD, Kohama SG, Matochik JA,
Ingram DK, Johnson SC.
Neuroimage. 2009 Mar 1;45(1):52-9. Epub 2008 Nov 14.
and
(2) Rhesus macaque brain morphometry: a methodological comparison of
voxel-wise approaches.
McLaren DG, Kosmatka KJ, Kastman EK, Bendlin BB, Johnson SC.
Methods. 2010 Mar;50(3):157-65. Epub 2009 Oct 31.

These articles describe the process to create a template (and priors)
for the rhesus macaque (http://brainmap.wisc.edu/monkey). The template
and priors are publicly available and free to download. The articles
also demonstrate the use of DARTEL in monkeys as well.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards, Donald McLaren
