Invitation to Scientists and Engineers outside of the Civil Service to complete Government Office for Science
The Government Office for Science is looking for volunteer scientists and engineers from outside the civil service to provide information about their careers. They hope to better understand the kinds of skills, capabilities and expert knowledge available in the wider science and engineering community and what practices employers have for developing the professional skills of their science and engineering staff.
GO-Science would welcome responses from anyone with a science or engineering background (including social sciences, technologists, mathematicians and computer scientists) who considers themselves to be a scientist or engineer. Please complete the survey if you have a science or engineering background)
There are around 15,000 scientists and engineers in government working in a huge range of occupations and disciplines, and playing a wide range of roles, whether in the monitoring and regulatory environment, operations and service provision or policy spheres.
GO-Science has been looking in more detail at the science and engineering professional community in government, what sort of knowledge and skills people have, what support or barriers they have experienced for their career development. A survey of civil service scientists and engineers has been conducted over the summer, but GO-Science is keen to see how career opportunities and support in the civil service compares with other employers.
The survey is at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WRHTRZB
The closing date is 19th October 2012
